Stonnington Council has started compiling a Masterplan for this
this iconic shopping strip in Prahran.
Residents, shoppers and retailers will be asked to contribute
their thoughts on how a rejuvenated Chapel St should look. Options include new
street furniture and lighting, open community spaces, green zones, and multi
directional pedestrian crossings. Extra bike racks, street art, and relaxation
areas have already been suggested by a retailers representative.
The Stonnington Mayor stressed that the council was looking
to reinvigorate the precinct not reinvent it. Changes would be made with an eye
to retaining the essential character of this popular shopping destination.
